Vinkovci's Roman Heritage – Cradle of Emperors

During the Roman Empire, Vinkovci was known as Colonia Aurelia Cibalae, a significant military and trade hub at the crossroads between East and West. The city was fortified by mighty walls and boasted public baths, a forum, and an amphitheater. Rich mosaics and villa remains reveal the luxurious lifestyle of Roman citizens who once lived here.

Its most famous residents were the brothers Valentinian I and Valens, both of whom became Roman emperors in the 4th century. Valentinian I was known for his military prowess and reforms, while his brother Valens is remembered for the pivotal Battle of Adrianople, where the Goths dealt a heavy blow to the Roman Empire.

We then continue to the Orion Calendar, one of the oldest known European calendars, reflecting the astronomical knowledge and spiritual depth of the ancient people of this region.
